It’s been so much fun to be planning wedding details with
Ryan, but I will talk about those later! We have something else we have been
planning as well that is what I wanted to talk about. Ryan applied for a scholarship that would pay
for his last 2 years of school and give him a job after college and (while we are
still waiting for the letter that says he got it for sure) it’s like 95% sure at
this point! That means that once Ryan graduates, we will be moving to Oklahoma!
Now this is super scary to me! Moving to College Station was
the first time I’ve ever moved from the home I’ve lived in since I was a baby,
and now I’m talking about moving to a different state! Whoa! This has really
been freaking me out recently, and I haven’t really bothered Ryan with it
because: 1. he’s really stressed about
finals and 2. he’s trying to wait till he gets the letter to really think about
this more.
So, recently I was listening to the radio and heard a song
that resonated with me. The song was “Flyover
States” by Jason Aldean (check it out here if you’ve never heard it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lkvGCTtZz8).
It’s a great song, and it talks about how great it can be to live in
mid-America (like Oklahoma!). This
really cheered me up about moving there and how it will be a wonderful
adventure with my new husband to move there! (It’s so excited to call Ryan
that!!)
So, of course, I had to make sure that Ryan had this
reassurance as well so I decided to make a craft of it to entertain myself
while Ryan was studying.
I started by buying a bunch of scrapbook paper and decided
to make a piece of wall art for our new home!
I started by laying out the scrapbook paper on the board.
All laid out!
Then I decided that I would put a place for a picture of us & our new home (in Oklahoma) on the board. The only paper I could find in the house was a postcard add for Sam's Club, but it worked out!
Measuring out the card for the picture
I also added our name to the board:
After laying it all out, I started taking the pieces off one at a time to glue them down. As I took them off, I marked where the corners sat so that I could lay them back down where they were originally.

Then I glued them on (The whole sheets, I didn't bother to cut them first, it was just much easier). I just used elmer's glue and a foam brush to spread the glue. Then I laid the paper down and smoothed it out with a gift card.
Once all of the papers glued on, I turned the board upside down and used a box cutter to cut along the edges. (I wasn't worried about perfectly straight lines because it gave it a better look not to be perfect, but if you want the lines to be smooth, set it on a cutting board first.)
Once the extra was cut off, I glued on the picture block and our names. Then, I wanted to add the lyrics to the song so that inspired the whole thing, so I started writing them out.
I quickly decided I hate my handwriting!
After realizing this, I was SO mad because I thought I had ruined the whole thing! Ryan encouraged me to try another way, so I covered it with scrapbook paper and looked for another way.
It still looked good after adding more scrapbook paper
Then I had to find other way to add the phrases... suddenly I remembered something else I had gotten:
Letter stickers!
I used these to add the phrases that I wanted to the art and finished it off with a few other stickers and showed Ryan (I kept it hidden from him the whole time I was making it).
Here is a close up of the words:
I love this poster and Ryan & I cannot wait to add a picture of us and our first home together to it!
So what do you think? Have you ever been inspired by a song? What new adventures are you excited for/scared about?
