10 Week Clean House: The Details

So you've decided to take my challenge? Or maybe you just wanted to learn more.  Either way, I'm excited to share the details with you!

How It Works:

- Divide your house into reasonable areas. The "areas" can be rooms, parts of rooms, or combinations of rooms.  For example, if you have a kitchen with an eat in dining room, you might group it as one area. Or if you have a few rooms with minimal stuff in them that you don't often use, they might be one area.  Or you might have a huge loft which spans the size of 3 rooms that you count as two areas. How many areas you have depends on your house, but you cannot have more than 10 (8 or less is better).

- Put your areas in the order you want to clean them in.  This doesn't have to be the dirtiest first or most used first or any specific order.  Just the order you want them in. If you have an area which really bothers you how messy it is, but isn't used often, maybe you choose that first.  Or maybe you don't.  It's up to you!

- Write down you order! This is your commitment to go through with it! If you don't write it down, and put it some where prominent in your house, you'll forget it! Don't do that! Make sure you number your order.  Any extra numbers at the bottom, write "Maintain"

(On a laminated poster, of course!)

- Week One: Look at which area is listed next to your number one. You have until the end of the week to get it under control.  This means everything put away, cleaned up and a plan for how to keep it that way.  If you notice in your living room that your kids toys are always all over the floor, find a solution! Do they need a basket in the living room to put them in? Do they need a reminder before dinner to clean them up? Spend this week finding that solution for that room and beginning to implement it.

- Each week after that: Look at the week number and concentrate on that area of the house for the week.  The catch for weeks 2-10 are to maintain any area which you have already cleaned.  So if your living room was the first week, for weeks 2-10 you must also maintain the living room.  Since you have already spent a whole week on that one room, maintaining it should take much less time.

- Once you hit your "Maintain" weeks, all you have to do is maintain the clean house you have! You might want to divide your house into 5 sections to hit each weekday, M-F.  Or you might do it all in one day! Or maybe the weekends are for cleaning in your house.  Find what works for you.

How does that sound? Pretty simple? I sure think so, and I hope you do, too.

Oh, I forgot one part.  Each week, I want you to share your "Before" and "After" pictures.  It will feel great to be able to see the transformation.

So, are you up for the challenge? I'd love for you to join me! Let me know so we can join each other and provide inspiration along our journey!
