Apartment Furniture Part 2: CraigsList Queen

I had furniture for the office area taken care of with stuff I already had, but I still needed a place to sleep, place to put my clothes, place to eat, etc. So, I got on CraigsList.

Now, there are some BAD deals on CraigsList, some really low quality items, some nice items listed for WAY too much, etc. So BE CAREFUL!!! Also, NEVER GO PICK UP AN ITEM ALONE! Always bring a buddy, preferably a male who looks a bit intimidating.

That being said, there are also some awesome deals on CraigsList if you are patient!

 Here are my CraigsList finds:

A Full Bed (came with mattress and box spring) - $50 (+1 hour drive each way)

A bed is expensive, especially if you want the whole this as a set (lots of people will sell just the frame so if you're cool with that its out there and cheap), but I wanted a new bed with wood frame.  I didn't realize how far away from me the listing was before I agreed to it, but it was well worth the drive for this find.

-- I did end up replacing the mattress and box spring on the bed - they were old and made noise every time I rolled over, plus it weird-ed me out to be sleeping on someone else's mattress - personally, I think a mattress is a good place to splurge a little (I got mine at a locally owned place, it has a pillow-top and was just over $300 for the set! - still a good deal)

A fancy dresser with mirror - $45

I really wanted a dresser with the mirror/shelves on the top (not sure what that part is called) so I knew I was going to pay a bit more (there are several dressers on craigslist for $15-$20)

When I bought this dresser, it was unstained. I bought stain in my color of choice - deep mahogany (only $12!) I started to sand it down and quickly got tired of that, but my dad came to the rescue! He sanded it and re-stained it!

He even added a personal touch on the underside of one of the drawers!

Table and 4 chairs - $25

The chairs even stack pretty easily, making it easy to save space if I don't want them all under the table! After I bought the set, I was wandering through Ikea one day and saw them! There are still for sale on the site for $80 for the set (although they show white chairs instead of my black), just in case you love them.

My newest craigslist find (meaning just this weekend!)

3 patio chairs  - $15

These are super cute and I can't resist anything with an A&M logo! Also, my new apartment has a fairly large patio which is well obscured by a set of stairs so I will feel comfortable putting these out there! 3 is kind of an awkward number and I really only wanted 2 but she said $7 each or $15 for all 3 so I just got them all and will be giving one to my guy friend.  He and his roommates can put it out back by their grill.

That's pretty much everything I got off craigslist. My total for bed, dresser (+stain), table and chairs, and patio chairs: $147.

Don't worry, I still have a few secrets up my sleeve to getting cheap furniture!
