Apartment Furniture Part 3: Hunting Down Deals

Two things I really wanted that I wasn't finding on Craigslist were a night stand and a tv stand. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of both of these items, but I'm a bit particular and didn't find the kind I wanted. So I had to go another direction with looking for them.

For the night stand, I wanted wood, rectangular, with 2/3 drawers. To find this, I headed to a resale shop in my town and found this:

And it was only $20!

I was so happy! This was exactly what I wanted and even matches the wood on my bed! Plus, the height makes it really easy to keep an alarm clock, water, and a book for easy access from bed!

Note: If you need a cheap TV - I suggest a resale shop. That way you have a return policy (normal is 30 days on electronics) and they will let you plug it in and turn it on to see the picture and see if its working before you buy it.  Plus their prices are pretty fair!

The TV stand.  In my room at home, I had an old stereo stand that I had been using as a TV stand and I loved it, so I wanted another (my sister was going to be using the one at home).  For this item, I employed my mom's best friends' strategy: Garage Sales! After going to a few and not finding what I wanted, this jewel showed up:

Lots of space on shelves for electronics and movies!

It was originally marked $15, but they had marked it down to $10 and since it was Sunday afternoon and they just wanted stuff gone (the best time to go for cheap stuff) I only paid $5!!!

-- Side note: One of my friends and I are trading TV stands for next year. (Great way to get an item you want and get rid of something you don't at the same time!) I was with him when he bought the one I'm going to be getting (also at a garage sale) and it was only $10. I thought this was too big at first, but it will be perfect in a living room and my current one is much suited for a bedroom like he will be putting it. So next year, this will be mine:

I love that you can close the doors and hide the TV!

And there's space below the TV for electronics!

So my total for this part was: $25! For two items which were exactly what I wanted!
