Black and Shabby Chic

If you've been paying attention, you know my living room in my new apartment will be shabby chic.  This makes me sooo happy (because I love the style and because my couch doesn't need a slip cover!) However, I was torn because my fairly new end table (that I am in LOVE with) is black and black doesn't really say shabby chic to me. So I had a MASSIVE problem!

If you forget, this is what my end table looks like

See those pretty flowers on the bottom shelf! I could not give this up, but it was either going to be put in the dining room or the craft/office/sitting room.  Now, this would serve NO purpose in a dining room and no one else would see it in the craft room!!! Plus that would mean I would have to find another end table and spend money on it ($10-20 on craigslist).

Well I now have a solution! It came to me as I was wandering through Target today (checking out all the clearance stuff of course!) This is what I found:

Little plaque, I love you!

It's pink and green (super shabby chic) and has a black frame!!!! As soon as I saw it I thought "This is going to be perfect hanging on my living room wall to tie together my shabby and my black coffee table!", but there was one more test.  I flipped it over to see the price (dun, dun, dun) and.....

If you can't read it, it says "Orig 9.99 Now 2.48"

$2.48!!!! Well I tucked it under my arm and headed straight to the checkout!! I'm so happy!!! That's less than $3 and pulling the whole room together! It's so simple!

Also, later today, after I got home all proud of incorporating black into my shabby chic living room, I found these in my storage closet:

Mom bought me two sets of these when they were on clearance

I had totally forgotten about these!!! And now, since black is gonna be in my living room, I can hang these up in it!!!

I'm really excited to move, which brings up another point: I move in 46 days! And I'm only going to be home for 23 of those!! Guess I should really start packing huh?

Do you have any packing/moving tips for me? What do you think of black and shabby chic? What's the strangest color/design combination you've ever seen work?
